Flower Shops

Nothing is as pleasing to the senses as walking into flower shops. The fragrant aroma, the vibrant color splashed around the shop, working there must be a relaxing and wonderful environment. But not everyone can work in flower shops; it takes dedication and skill to learn the art of floral arrangement. It has often been said that nature is this world's best flower arranger and this point is hard to argue. But nature is not in the employ of any of the flower shops.

The art of arranging flowers is a subject that has filled many books, some useful and some not. The Japanese art of Ikebana is a particularly exciting arrangement process and one you should jump at the chance of seeing in person. Ikebana is the art of minimalism in floral arrangements. Something we do not see that much of in the west, where arrangement is focused on lavish color and style.

The origins of Ikebana can be traced back to the 6th century and to the introduction of Buddhism. The first people to study and teach this art of floral arrangement were Buddhist priests and it has remained an important part of Japanese culture ever since. It is seen as the combination of natural beauty and humandesign, and this is the perfect description of floral arrangement and something we can all appreciate when we visit our favorite flower shops.
