Send Flowers, Flower Shops, and Send Flowers

Send FlowersFlowers make great gifts no matter what the occasion, in fact flowers make great gifts when there is no occasion, sent simply because you care. You can send flowers to commiserate, celebrate, to woo or to simply let someone know you care about them. For every occasion there is a flower, so how do you know what flowers are appropriate for a unique situation?

Romance

The rose. It is a classic flower to give and one that has been well documented throughout literature and modern culture. But the color and the amount of roses you give can signify different things. You should know what these mean before you unintentionally give a gift to someone who knows a little bit more about flowers than you.

The single red rose is a common sight in flower shops and most of us understand what it represents. A single red rose represents love at first sight, a symbol of dedication and recognition of a soul mate. Twelve red roses when given via flower delivery are considered to be a romantic proposition. They are thought to represent a romantic proposal, not one of marriage, but of the birth of a relationship. Add one more rose to make a bouquet of 13 and this is seen as a gift from a secret admirer. If you give 13 roses, you should not identify yourself until the time is right.

Condolence/sympathy

In times of loss, flowers can express your sympathy but you should be aware of religious practices before you send flowers. Christians and Mormons generally find flowers appropriate at a funeral service. To avoid duplicating any arrangements, you should check with the parish before you use any flower delivery service. If the deceased was of Muslim faith, flowers are considered inappropriate and instead gifts of food should be given. If the service is centered on the Buddhist religion, you should avoid giving red flowers, as these are seen to represent happiness.

With regard to color, white is always seen as appropriate and represents peace; white lilies are also always tasteful. Yellow roses can represent friendship and pink roses represent femininity.

Birthday

It is commonly considered inappropriate to give red roses on a birthday especially if it is to a member of your family. You should avoid giving these as a birthday gift at the start of a new relationship. It may be perceived as being too forward. If you want to give a bouquet of flowers as a birthday gift to someone you are in a new relationship with, a mixed arrangement is considered the best idea. This tells the recipient that you are thinking about them without placing too much emphasis on the romantic aspect.
